Results from Examinations
Along with completing the rhinoscopy examine, Snoopy also completed a BRAF examine in which it was determined that he had an enlarged prostate and possibly a small amount of cancer cells. Because it was a “small” amount and not considered “alarming.” Snoopy was prescribed Prednisone. My brother received the results from the rhinoscopy exam and Snoopy indeed had a nasal tumor, his prognosis was spindle cell sarcoma. We were extremely heartbroken to hear the outcome of these exams.
Snoopy was referred to Animal Specialty Center where we met with the doctor (for privacy reasons she will not be named). On 03/22, a phone consultation was conducted with the doctor, and we discussed the options that were available to treat his cancer. We were informed about stereotactic radiation (SRT) which would be conducted in 3 consecutive days or conventional treatment on weekdays for 3 weeks, and the last option was palliative treatment (PRT) for once a week for 4 weeks. The Dr. informed us that with either SRT or conventional radiation we “would expect 1-2 years of local control” of the cancer. With PRT we would “expect 4-10 months” but may be less successful and that treatment had an increased risk of side effects. Of course, we were concerned because for both of the two treatments suggested (SRT and PRT) Snoopy would have to be on general anesthesia and he never did well with that. We were informed that with any treatment the side effects would include hair loss.
My brother and I spoke, we reviewed the side effects and truly believed that SRT was the best treatment option for Snoopy. Based on the doctor's recommendations and advice, we were confident that the treatment was going to be successful especially because Snoopy always showed a strength and desire to get better. Seeing Snoopy gave my family and I hope that everything was going to turn out well.
