Changes in Physical Health

Snoopy with Angelina

“There is nothing truer in this world than the love of a good dog” – Mira Grant

As you read in the previous blogs, Snoopy always had a beautiful relationship with us, his family. He also got along with our turtles. Angelina, who is our oldest turtle would always climb up on Snoopy’s bed while he was resting and he was always gentle and caring towards her. While the months passed by, Snoopy began to lose balance in his left hind leg. He would try to stand up and walk but would slip back down due to instability in his balance. Snoopy was taken to Banfield Hospital to discuss these concerns with his primary vet.

During the visit at Banfield, Snoopy was diagnosed with arthritis and the suggestions were injections. My brother took Snoopy to the vet constantly for these injections. First it began as bi-weekly trips, which turned into monthly. My brother was informed that the injections were going to help Snoopy balance himself and walk “better.” Unfortunately, that was not the case as he continued to demonstrate extreme difficulty standing up or to even walk at times. He did not present to be in pain; he ate, slept, and played as usual. However, during walks he was moving much slower and his hind left leg would drag. Snoopy would try to lift his back left leg but had difficulties. The wheelchair was recommended to help Snoopy walk; however, it was too heavy and uncomfortable for him to use. My brother decided to purchase him a body harness that allowed my brother to pick up Snoopy’s back legs and support him comfortably while walking. My brother, who was Snoopy’s Primary caretaker, dedicated all his time to caring for Snoopy and took Snoopy to the park daily since it was something Snoopy always loved .
